Shadows moving around in the dark and things that go bump in the night have become a popular theme to those not faint of heart. The genre draws in large crowds to cinemas. However, Andy Nyman and his small crew of actors have consistently sent theatre-goers home afraid to turn out the lights at night and go to bed. Ghost Stories London is performed live on a stage and the performances rattle and terrify the audience turning sceptics into believers.

The shows originally began in the Liverpool Playhouse and Lyric Hammersmith Theatre drawing in 150,000 people to approximately 1000 shows a year. The performances were box-office sell outs.

Currently, Ghost Stories London scares the wits out of horror-loving patrons at the Dukes of York’s Theatre. Duke of York’s Theatre is a West End Theatre in St Martin’s Lane in the City of Westminster. Originally, it opened as the Trafalgar Square Theatre September 10, 1892 with Wedding Eve. Designed by Architect Walter Emden it became Duke of York’s in 1895 to honour the future King George V.

Andy Nyman’s passion for acting is hardly the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his talents. He has been a practicing magician since childhood and later became interested in a type of magic called mentalism. He has been a teacher of mentalism for the past 10 years, locally and internationally.

He has been described as a soft-spoken gentleman, therefore, one could ask, where does he come up with such terrifying insight? Nevertheless, Andy Nyman and his co-writer Jeremy Dyson’s ghostly tales have received raving reviews from critics everywhere and appraisals from fans who cannot express enough; do not go without a friend.

The shows are 80 minutes of tension, twists, sudden surprises and shocking conclusions. No one under 15 years old is admitted and those older-who are daring enough to attend a show, are strongly advised to think about it seriously if they are of a nervous disposition. Those, who are feeling stoic, are warned to: Keep telling yourselves, it’s only a show.

Performances are Tuesday to Thursday at 8:00 PM, Friday and Saturday at 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM, Sunday at 5:00 PM. The show is booking until June, 2011. Those wanting to reserve a ticket are advised to purchase them early, given that sell out performances are the norm.
