Each year, the revenue generated through mobile advertising continues to increase. Prior substantial doubt about the effectiveness and popularity of this type of social advertising has been erased by incredible performance and statistics demonstrating the effectiveness of mobile ads.

Industry experts are carefully watching mobile advertising trends after the appearance of Apple's iPad as a new advertising platform. While Apple continues to generate substantial revenue from their own mobile advertising campaigns deployed on the new device, others are joining in on their success.

Apple is not the only company getting into the mobile ad game, however. Google has recently made the acquisition of adMob, which is a popular advertising platform that is expected to provide the search giant with approximately one billion dollars in revenue this year. what truly distinguishes the adMob service is that it will work on both iOS and Android based devices. This is a corner of the market currently relatively unoccupied. We can certainly expect growth in this area within a relatively short period of time.


As more mobile devices appear on the scene, particularly those that allow application development for the platform, mobile advertising will continue to perform increasingly well. Blackberry is now enabling app developers to include mobile ads in their programs. There is already strong competition between Android and Apple's iOS platforms, it will be interesting to see how revenue comes in on other platforms.

Because mobile advertising is just getting started, there are many smaller competitors entering the scene and hoping for a piece of the action. It isn't likely that most will stick around long and the best performers will probably just be absorbed by the big names before they become too powerful a competitor. This is excellent news for those hoping to profit from this new technology.

It is also excellent news for the big named competitors like Apple and Google, who will eventually be able to take advantage of the new technology being developed by the smaller competitors. Rich media and other types of ads beyond SMS messages are what the experts are counting on to keep mobile ads fresh and the revenue streaming in by the millions.
