When travelling in Europe, one of the most beautiful and popular tourist destinations in the east is Prague in the Czech Republic. Bordered by German, Austria, Slovakia and Poland, Prague is located in the North-western part of the country. There is plenty to see and do in Prague; you just have to know where to look!
The first thing to consider when travelling is booking your
Prague hotels. In Prague you will find a variety of hotels situated at any price point; from the most inexpensive end of hostels, to budget hotels, to ship hotels and mid priced hotels, to the luxury of the four star hotel, Prague has something for every taste and every budget. Be warned though, Prague has one of the busiest hotel markets in all of Eastern Europe, so be sure to book your Prague hotels early!
While in Prague be sure to take the time to sample the local cuisine. You will find meat at the heart of most all Czech dishes, though if you are not a carnivore, it is possible to find fried cheese and a variety of salads at most restaurants. Be sure to try 'kolac,' a tart filled with poppy seeds or sweet cheese that is the most beloved dessert in the city. For budget choices take the time to find restaurants catering to locals, also consider hitting grocery stores or street vendors for quick meals like fried cheese sandwiches or hot dogs.
The Old Town is home to some of the most beautiful sites in the city including the famous Charles Bridge. The Charles Bridge is easily Prague’s most notable and treasured landmark. For extra luck, locate the spot on the bridge with the five bronze stars and the cross, put a finger on each of the stars and make a wish. Also be sure to visit Old Town Square and witness the chiming of the astrological clock.
In New Town visit Wenceslas Square and the Dancing House built by Frank Gehry. Later, travel to the Jewish quarter to visit the old synagogues that provided havens for Jews during the Holocaust. Don't miss the Prague Castle. The castle is home to St. George’s Basilica, the Old Royal Palace, one of the world’s largest castles and St. Vitus’s Cathedral, which went through 600 years of construction. History and culture abound in Prague, so take the time, wander the streets and take it all in.
